A funeral service will be held on Wednesday for Joseph A. Roch, N. Hermitage Rd., Sharpsville, Pa., who passed away peacefully at 3:45 p.m. Friday (3-16-12) surrounded by his loving family. He was 89.
Mr. Roch was born in Black Lick, Pennsylvania the son of Ludvik and Francisca Stora Roch.
He was a member of Hickory High Schools graduating class of 1940. Joe was a decorated veteran and he served with the United States Army Air Force from December of 1942, until his honorable discharge in October of 1945. While in the service he flew aboard the C47's, C109's, and the C46's where he was a radio operator and technician in charge of radio mechanics.
A carpenter and millwright, he worked out of the Carpenters Local Union #268. Joe was a man respected for his wisdom and advice; he had many talents and interests. He enjoyed working and he new all phases of construction, he even built homes for his children.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed auto racing, truck pulling, and sports.
His loving wife the former Marion L. Gibson whom he married in the rectory of St. Joseph's Church on August 20, 1949, survives at home.
Also surviving are his daughter, Patricia Chovan and her husband Robert, Sharpsville, three sons, Richard and his companion Ina Daniello, Hadley, James and his wife Mary, and Robert and his wife Marlene, all of Sharpsville. He was grandpa to Michael, Stephen, and Christopher Chovan, Brian, Megan, Alison, Amelia, Daniel, and Cory Roch, Melanie Beals, and Jessica Lineberger. He also leaves a great granddaughter Danica, and a sister Margaret Polonus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Elizabeth, Mary, Anna, Albina, and two brothers, Ludvik and Fred Roch.
