Joseph A. Kurtanich, 77, of Sharon, passed away Sunday morning, March 8, 2026, in UPMC Jameson Hospital, New Castle.
Mr. Kurtanich was born on January 26, 1949, in Sharon, a son of the late Alex and Helen (Kocis) Kurtanich. After graduating from Sharon High School in 1966, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1970, and later earned his Master of Science in Engineering in 1983, both at Youngstown State University. He went on to serve as an adjunct civil engineering professor at YSU, which he truly enjoyed.
On June 16, 1973, Joe married his beloved wife, the former Janet K. Dillaman, and she survives at home.
Since 1970, Joe has worked as an engineer at their family firm, Kurtanich Engineering, which he has owned and operated since 1998. He was a past president of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers and was a member of the American Society of Engineers.
Joe was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.
He served on the board of directors at the Keystone Blind Association and the Sharon Industrial Development Authority. Joe was previously a member of the Hermitage Kiwanis Club.
He was an avid golfer and a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan.
In addition to his wife, Janet, of Sharon; Joe is survived by a daughter, Adie Kurtanich, of Cranberry Twp., PA; a son, Jon Kurtanich, also Cranberry Twp., PA; two sisters, Joanne Kirila (Dr. Paul), of Mason, OH, and Sandra Kurtanich, of Sandy Lake, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a brother, David Kurtanich.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday (3-13-26) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. on Saturday (3-14-26) in the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd., Hermitage, with Rev. Raymond Gramata, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Ann Cemetery, Hermitage.
