Joseph Moody, Jr., a former longtime resident of Sharon-New Castle Rd., Farrell, passed away at 3:02 p.m. Monday (8-8-11) in St. John's Lutheran Care Center, Mars, PA.
Mr. Moody was born September 6, 1920 in McDonald, Ohio the youngest child of the late Joseph and Agnes Bennett Moody.
He attended Girard (Ohio) High School and served with the US Army as a Staff Sgt. during WWII in the European Theater. He married the former Dorothy Ruth Webb on June 25, 1949 and moved to the Shenango Valley the same year.
Together he and his wife raised four children and were married for more than 47 years. Dorothy passed away March 29, 1997.
He retired in 1980 from Western-Southern Life Insurance Co., Hermitage, where he was an agent for 29 years.
Throughout his life Joe kept active with many different endeavors. He coached the FNB baseball team in the Farrell Little League; was an avid gardener; and enjoyed golfing. Joe was a staunch supporter of Farrell High School sports, particularly basketball and football, and was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. Many people in his neighborhood will remember him as a bicycle enthusiast. He rode his bicycle daily for many years and it was not uncommon for him to pedal 30 miles a day. Joe was also a volunteer for many years with Special Olympics PA and was a recipient of its Unsung Hero Award. He was a former member of the German Home in Farrell.
Surviving are: twin daughters, Melissa A. White and her husband Mark, Cranberry Township, Butler County; and Michele A. Kerber and her husband Scott, Wexford, PA; two sons, Jeffrey W. Moody and his companion Iris Tonty, Sharon; and Joseph B. Moody and his wife Mary Anne, Jefferson City, MO; ten grandchildren, Shana Frederick and her husband Frank; Steffan Moody, Christine Moody; Bradley Moody; Bryce, Brock and Brielle White; and Alex, Justin and Evan Kerber; two great grandchildren, Leah and Gavin Frederick; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Joe was preceded in death by four sisters, Charlotte Parilla, Gladys Jones, Edith Overdorff and Kathleen Moody who died in infancy; and three brothers, James, Ben and Cecil Moody.

Carol S. Moore, 836 Christy Road, Hermitage passed away at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (10-13-11) in UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was 68.
Carol was born August 21, 1943 in Westernport, Maryland a daughter of William and Alice Hood Price. She was a 1961 graduate of Piedmont (West Virginia) High School and received an associate of science degree from Potomac State College, Keyser, WV.
Carol retired in 2005 after 21 years of service from the U.S.D.A. World Development Office in Meadville, PA where she was employed as a loan technician.
She was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, and enjoyed crafts.
She is survived by two daughters, Ingrid A. Brash and her husband Dr. Douglas Brash, Hermitage; and Megan L Sweger and her husband Benjamin Sweger, Newville, PA; two sons, Dr. Michael C. Maine, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland; and Wesley S. Moore and his wife Gabrielle, Lancaster, New York; a sister, Lois Ann Price, Henderson, Nevada; and six grandsons, Christian, Holden and Sebastian Sweger; Ryan and Benjamin Brash; and Ethan Moore.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
