Joseph Ward Fuqua, 78, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at Edison Manor Nursing Home.

He was born in Amherst County, Virginia on March 26, 1937, a son of the late Edward and Carleen Rose Fuqua.

He was a 1955 graduate of Union High School.

Joseph married the former Sandra Caraway in 1958, and she preceded him in death in 1998.

He was a self-employed plasterer for many years.

Joseph was a very gifted artist and enjoyed doing drawings and sketching in pens.

He was a member of the Second Baptist Church.

He is survived by his sister, Bertha Davis and her husband, Bernard, of New Castle; two brothers, James H. Fuqua and his wife, Diane, of New Castle, and John S. Fuqua of New Castle; along with several grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his son, Joseph W. Fuqua Jr.

Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St.

A going home service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Norbert H. Hunt, pastor.
