Jose "Joe" J. Millan, M.D., of Hermitage passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 19, 2016, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 59.

Dr. Millan was born Aug. 20, 1957, in Puebla Del Caraminal, Spain, the only child of Jose and Alicia Gonzalez Millan.

He moved to the United States in 1968 and was raised in Lyndhurst, N.J., where he attended Sacred Heart Elementary School.

He was a 1976 graduate of Queen of Peace High School, North Arlington, N.J., and received his bachelor's degree from Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J., in 1980.
Dr. Millan earned his medical degree from the University of Autonoma de Guadalajara (UAG) School of Medicine and completed his residency at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey.

Moving to Hermitage in 1997, he served as a board-certified cardiologist for Sharon Regional Health System and was a former treasurer of its medical staff.

Dr. Millan was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.

Surviving are: three daughters, Noelle E. Millan, Pittsburgh; and Alexandra M. Millan and Kimberly R. Millan, both Hermitage; and his mother and father, also of Hermitage.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or to the American Cancer Society.
