Jon O. Gee, of Sharon, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, January 26, 2019, in Nugent's CCRC, Hermitage. He was 83.
Mr. Gee was born May 10, 1935, in Charleroi, PA, a son of the late John R. and Hazel M. (Jones) Gee. He was a 1953 graduate of Sharon High School, and as a young man worked as a parts and service technician at various car dealerships in the Shenango Valley.
Prior to the opening of G.M. Lordstown (Lordstown, OH) in 1966, Jon was the 5th employee hired to work in the new car manufacturing facility. He worked in the plant as a tool repairman for the next 31 years, retiring in 1997.
Jon was a longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Sharon.
He was also a member of U.A.W. Local 1112, Lordstown, OH.
Jon had a lifelong passion for restoring and collecting classic and antique cars. He enjoyed "tinkering" in his garage and spending time at his camp in Jefferson, PA, with his four sons. Above all, Jon loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, the former Joyce A. Knapp, whom he married February 20, 1954, in St. John's Episcopal Church, Sharon; a daughter, Karen (Paul) Stephenson, Hermitage; four sons, John (Lorraine) Gee, Hubbard Twp., OH, and Daniel W. (Deborah) Gee, Gary O. (Lisa) Gee, and Jason D. Gee, all of Sharon; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Jeff) Osborne and Jon Stephenson; Tiffany Gee, Daniel Gee, Jr. and David Gee; and Ciara, Isabella and Olivia Gee; and a great grandson, Maverick Osborne.
In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by a brother, Donald E. Gee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. John's Episcopal Church, 226 W. State St., Sharon.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday (1-28-19) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Burial Office will be 11 a.m. Tuesday (1-29-19) in St. John's Episcopal Church, Sharon, with Rev. Adam Trambley, rector, as celebrant.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
