John A. "Jack" Wareham of Sharon passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunda y evening, September 2, 2018, in his residence. He was 93.
Mr. Wareham was born February 24, 1925, in Bradford, PA, a son of the late Clarence and Ruth (Crooks) Wareham. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1943.
A proud veteran, Jack en listed in the U.S. Army Air Corp. , serving as a navigator in a B24 bomber during WWII. His flight tours included missions over "The Hump" in the China Burma India Theatre, earning him several medals and citations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Over the next six years following the war , Jack earned a bachelor's degree from Westminster College, New Wilmington, while working in the payroll and accounting department of th e former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corp. He became one of the earliest computer programmers to work at Westinghouse, and remained at the plant until his retirement in 1984.
In 1966, Jack was elected as City Controller of Sharon , and left a legacy of the highest levels of moral conduct and professionalism following 27 years of service.
As a young man, he was an extraordinary table tennis player, and years later competed in the Sr. Olympics, winning several medals.
An avid card player his entire life , Jack particularly enjoyed pl aying euchre with friends and at local social clubs.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #684 , Sharon, and the Croatian Home, Farrell.
His beloved wife of 71 years, the former Margaret Helen Roberts, whom he married April 5, 1947, passed away recently on July 28 of this year .
Surviving are: 11 children, John (Cheryl) Wareham, Brockton, MA; Cheryl (Daniel) Caszatt, Hermitage; Timothy (Kathy) Wareham, Tuckahoe, NY; Thomas (Kristi) Wareham, Rowlett, TX; Keith (Dee) Wareham, Sharon; Daniel Wareham, Dallas, TX; Terry Wareham and his companion Ruthie , Sharon; Steven (Elizabeth) Wareham, Sharon; Kathy (Jeff) Przicina , Clark; Edwin Wareham, Hartford, OH; and Dianne Head, Hubbardsville , NY; a brother, Gene (Barbara) Wareham, Sharon; 29 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Jack was preceded in death a daughter, Cynthia DiClaudio ; a son, Jeffrey Wareham; a brother, Richard Wareham; and a great great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Buhl Park , 715 Hazen Rd., Hermitage PA, 16148; or the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter, 2599 Broadway Rd, Hermitage, PA 16148 .
Calling hours will be 10 a.m. until noon Saturday (9-8-18) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 370 Spruce Ave, Sharon, PA 16146 , with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan , pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Hermitage.
