John F. Urban, Ball Park Road, Jefferson Township, passed away peacefully Thursday morning (9-9-10) in his home after a lengthy illness. He was 75.
John was born at home on May 11, 1935 in Farrell, the son of Ludwig E. and Agnes Dillon Urban.
A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Hickory High School in 1954.
Along with his wife, he belonged to Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex, Pa., and was a former member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.
He retired with 37 years of service from the former Sharon Steel Corporations Farrell plant where he began working in the Stainless Steel Department and retired from the Plant Fire Protection Department. He also was an accomplished Marine engine specialist and worked for 20 years at the former Sharon Marine Supply. After retiring from Sharon Steel, he worked for 15 years in mantanience at the closed River Road Landfill Site for Waste Management and also at the same site for 5 years for D-Squared Environmental Services, Cheswick, Pa. John was happiest while keeping busy and he was a self employed truck driver having owned several trucks over the years. He also drove part time for Schwartz Excavating and also owned rental property in Hermitage.
A decorated veteran, he served from 1958 until 1960 in the U.S Army and was honored with letters of commendation for driving and escorting a high ranking General during that time. He was assigned to Guided Missiles Headquarters for the Northeast Seaboard and was granted top security Clearance. He was honorably discharged March 24, 1960 with the Good Conduct Medal and Marksmanship.
His wife the former Barbara David whom he married on February 21, 1970 in the former St. Ann's Church, Farrell, survives at the residence.
He also leaves his two sisters, Jacqueline Blair, Hermitage, and Audrey Pollock, Grove City, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling Hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday (9-12-10) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass in the gathering space of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday (9-13-10) in Church of the Good Shepherd at 10:00 a.m. with Msgr. Robert M. Malene, pastor of the church, and Msgr. Salvatore P. Mitchell, retired priest, as concelebrants.
The family asks that everyone go directly to the church Monday morning for the Funeral Mass.
Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage, with full military honors provided by veterans from the Hickory VFW Post 6166.
