John Joseph Takoch, Sr., formerly of Hermitage, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Saturday evening, December 24, 2016, in Clepper Manor, Sharon. He was 92.
Mr. Takoch was born July 21, 1924, in Uniontown, PA, a son of John and Mary Mulich Takoch. He was raised and educated in Youngstown and worked as a fireman for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad before entering the service.
A decorated war veteran, John served in the US. Army with Company C 718th Railway Operating Battalion during WW II in the European Theatre. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of several medals including the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars.
He was employed as a truck driver for many years and retired from what is now CCL Container in Hermitage after twenty years of service.
John was an active member and Deacon at the Shenango Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church in Shenango Township for many years.
He was a 35 year member of the National Model Railroad Association.
His wife of 67 years, the former Marian Srbic, whom he married November 16, 1946, passed away April 18, 2014.
Surviving are: three daughters, Roberta A. Anton and her husband Edward, West Middlesex; Loretta "Lori" M. Weston and her husband Bert, Mercer; and Marian "Mimi" J. Prada and her husband Jose, Hermitage; two sons John J. Takoch, Jr. and his wife Diane, Annville, PA; and Christopher D. Takoch and his wife Dana, Hermitage; twelve grandchildren; and 20 great grand-children.
Besides his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William A. Takoch.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County, 109 S. Sharpsville Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.
Calling hours will be from 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016, until the time of service in J Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 5:30 p.m. Thursday, in the funeral home, with Pastor William Peterson of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, officiating.
Military honors will be rendered immediately following the service.
Interment: America's Cemetery, Hermitage.
