John J. Sabol Sr., Farrell, passed away peacefully at 7:25 p.m. Sunday (1-25-15) in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage. He was 83. John was born May 6, 1931, in Youngstown, to Peter and Frances Zurawick Sabol. He graduated from Girard (Ohio) High School. He retired in 1993 from the former Sharon Steel Corp., Farrell. John belonged to Our Lady of Fatima - St. Ann's Church in Farrell. He was an active member of the church community where he was a former president of the Holy Name Society and was named "Man of the Year" in 1993. He was in charge of the St. Anthony processions, was director of the ushers, and was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a lector and a founding member of the Thursday Holy Hour of Reparation, where he was an Altar Apostle. He was also a member of the Mercer County Pro-Life Committee and a committee member for Boy Scout Troop 27. John enjoyed bowling in the Senior Bowling League in Farrell and belonged to Sharon American Legion. He was a veteran who served in the Army in Korea during the Korean War from 1952-54. John was married 591/2 years to Genevieve "Jean" Mastrian Sabol, who won his heart through his stomach. Besides his wife, he is survived by: his children, John Sabol Jr. and his wife Carolyn, Michael Sabol and his wife Dolores, Mary Allen and her husband Michael, Susan Allen and her husband William, Joseph Sabol and his wife Karen, Anne Wesley and her husband William, and Adeline McLaughlin and her husband Paul. He was very proud that all of his children were college graduates. He is also survived by: his grandchildren, Corrine and her husband Joseph, John III, Cameron, Julianna, Sarah and her husband Ken, Rebecca and her husband Paul, Jennifer, Michael and his wife Priscilla, Peter and his wife Angeline, Thomas and his wife Kristen, Amy and her husband Kevin, Kimberly, Julie, Gina, Mitchell, Markus, Teressa, Genevieve, Catherine, and Michelle. He also has five great-grandchildren, Joseph, Kora, Paul, Michael III and Julia. John was a wonderful grandfather who enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Victoria, who raised him, and Charles Zurawick; his brother, Joseph; and his granddaughter, Jill Allen.
