Funeral service will be Saturday for John A. "Jack" Pearce, formerly of Boyd Drive, Sharon. He passed away peacefully at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, of natural causes. He was 90. Jack was born March 10, 1925 in Sharon, a son of Harry C. and Catherine Alderman Pearce. A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Sharon High School in 1943. He attended the University of Michigan, Purdue University, and St. Mary's College. Jack served as an aviation cadet in the Navy during World War II. He started his business career at G.C. Murphy Co. and later worked for the former Sharon Hardware, where he was vice president of sales. He then moved to Stambaugh-Thompson as a regional manager. Jack is best remembered as the co-owner of the former Sharon Stationery and Supply Inc., which he ran in downtown Sharon for 24 years until 1983. He was subsequently employed as court crier for the former judge Albert E. Acker and taught small business management classes for adult students and business owners at Mercer County Career Center. Mr. Pearce was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Sharon, where he was past president of the board of trustees and deacon, and where he enjoyed teaching youth Sunday school for 10 years. He was a past member and board director of Pennsylvania Retailer's Association; vice president of Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce; past president of Downtown Sharon Merchants Association; member of National Federation of Small Business; and chairman of Sharon City Planning Commission and Sanitary Authority; and served on several mayoral advisory committees. He was a past chairman of the United Way budget committee. Jack was a former member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 103, and a Kiwanis member for 25 years in Sharon, where he had served as a state officer. He was active with the 32nd Degree Consistory of Free and Accepted Masons, Columbus, Ohio; and Pickaway Lodge 23, Circleville, Ohio. Mr. Pearce married the former Mary Frances Whalen on June 25, 1945; she passed away May 4, 2010. Surviving are: three sons, John (Jack) A. Pearce II and his wife Susan, Wayne, Pa.; Michael W. Pearce and his wife Sandra, Rogers, Alaska; and Thomas Pearce, Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren, David Pearce, Mark Pearce, Joshua Pearce and his wife Jen, Solomon Pearce and his wife Erika, Mary Rachel Austin and her husband David, and Elijah Pearce and his wife Ashley; and seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Jerome and Vincent Pearce; Fiona and Sebastian Pearce; and Xavier and Amira Austin.
