Obituary

John Paul Taylor of Lewes, DE, formerly of Sharon, passed away at 12:58 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017. He was 90.

Mr. Taylor was born December 21, 1926, in Sharon, a son of Howard A. and Catherine M. (Ryan) Taylor. He was a graduate of Sharon High School and served with the US Navy during WWII.

John retired as a supervisor in 1983 from the former Sawhill Tubular Products, Wheatland. He was a member of Reisterstown Senior Center, Maryland; Lewes Senior Center; the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1321, Farrell; American Legion, Post 299; VFW, Shenango Valley Post 1338; and the former Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 327, all of Sharon.

John enjoyed being around people, hunting, fishing, going to the casino, gardening and traveling. He also liked making crafts and was known for painting and decorating rocks from Lake Erie.

Surviving are: two daughters, Kathleen A. Mitchell, Lewes, DE; and Karen A. Davis, Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Shirley Woge, Hermitage; three grandchildren, Brian P. Davis, Baltimore, MD; Melanie B. Matteo, Baltimore, MD; and Kelly R. Davis, Virginia Beach, VA; and two great grandchildren, Draiden C. Poittilo, Virginia Beach, VA; and Liam Matteo, Baltimore, MD.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, the former Shirley Bailey, whom he married on March 3, 1951; a son, John Paul Taylor Jr.; and a daughter, Sherry Lynn Ciccia.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to American Institute for Cancer Research, 1759 R St. NW, Washington, DC 20009.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017 , in St. Mary's Cemetery chapel, with Rev. Matthew J. Ruyechan, pastor of St. Anthony's Church, Sharon, officiating. Arrangements by J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.

Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
