Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday for John A. Nigborowicz of Paul Avenue, Sharon. He passed away peacefully at 7:48 p.m. Sunday (4-19-15) in Dublin, Ohio, at his daughter's home after a brief illness. He was 92. Mr. Nigborowicz was born May 16, 1922, in Gallitzin, Pa., to Peter and Aniela Jajko Nigborowicz. He was employed by Wheatland Tube Co. as master mechanic before retirement in 1984. During World War II, he served with the 15th Army Air Corps on a B17 as flight engineer/top turret gunner, having flown 13 missions before the plane was downed over Czechoslovakia. He was captured by the Germans and was a prisoner of war in Stalag Luft 4 for 9½ months, and was in the death march in freezing winter weather for 88 days. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon. Mr. Nigborowicz belonged to the Polish National Alliance; Knights of Columbus Council 684, Sharon; Catholic War Veterans Post 1446, Sharpsville; American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, American Ex Prisoners of War and the North Sharon Volunteer Fire Company. His wife, the former Wanda Sekowski, whom he married July 29, 1950, survives at home. Also surviving are his four children, Rosemary Jones and her husband Ramon, Meadville; Theresa Jeric and her husband Rick, Dublin; John J. Nigborowicz, Carmel, Ind.; and Stephen W. Nigborowicz, Fairlawn, Ohio; six grandchildren, Benjamin, Christine, Catherine, Richard, Christian and Maria; and a great-grandson, Gabriel. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter and Joseph Nigborowicz; and two sisters, Mary Skutch and Ann Olsavsky. Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage, with full military honors provided by the West Middlesex VFW Post 6233 and Wheatland American Legion Post 432 Honor Guard.
