John A. Marenchin, of Hermitage, passed away Saturday morning (7-30-16) in his residence, after a period of failing health. He was 87.
Marenchin was born Sept. 27, 1928, in Weirton, W.Va., a son of John and Mary Popyack Marenchin. He attended Farrell schools and served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean war.
Following his honorable discharge, he returned home to continue his business, Johnny's Garage, which he opened in 1950.
He later changed the name of the business to Marenchin's Transmissions, which he owned and operated in Hermitage until his retirement in 1988.
John also served as a Mercer County Deputy Sheriff for 27 years, retiring in 2007. At age 79 he was the oldest deputy sheriff in the commonwealth.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Sharon.
An outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter and enjoyed going to his camp on the Clarion River.
He also enjoyed working on cars and restored two antique automobiles.
John was a 32nd Degree Free and Accepted Mason and a member of Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex. He also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Police.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 60 years, the former Julia Ann Roberts, formerly of Sharon, whom he married Oct. 20, 1956; two daughters, Donna S. Osterried and her husband Robert, Clarion, Pa., and Nancy E. Ayers, West Middlesex; four grandchildren, Vanessa Palmer, West Middlesex; Sherry Carter and her husband Christopher, Hermitage; Peter Borowicz, Sharon, and Diana Boyd and her husband Jay, Columbus, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, John Wesley-Adams and Ryan A. Palmer, both West Middlesex; two sisters, Thelma Voshell, Oviedo, Fla and Mary Ann Covert and her husband Lester, Hermitage; and a brother, Ernest Marenchin and his wife DeDe, Hermitage.
John was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Norman Marenchin; two brothers George Rabatin and Donald Marenchin; two sisters Dorothy Newell and Bettie Henderson; and a son-in-law Wayne R. Ayers.

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday (8-4-16) in the funeral home with Rev. Michael L. Lozano, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Sharon, officiating.
Interment: America's Cemetery, Hermitage, with military honors by the West Middlesex VFW, Wheatland American Legion and Farrell VFW honor guard.
