John Krivosh, formerly of Sharon, passed away February 19, 2012 in Florida where he has resided for the past ten years. He was 97.
Mr. Krivosh was born July 9, 1914 in Sharon a son of the late Paul and Sophie Daniels Krivosh.
He was a graduate and standout athlete at Sharon High School where he was a member of the football, basketball, baseball and track teams and also threw the discus and javelin.
During this time he was named MVP in the annual Hoyle Tournament. He then matriculated to Westminster College, New Wilmington, where he was a member of the football and basketball teams and received his bachelor's degree. While at Westminster, he played in the first double header of college basketball against St. John's at the old Madison Square Garden in New York City. When the new Madison Square Garden was dedicated, he and all other living members of those teams were recognized during halftime ceremony.
He served with the US Army Air Force during WW II. John was inducted into the Mercer County Hall of Fame in 1979 and was the oldest living member prior to his death.
He was a member of St.'s Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elk's, Lodge 103, both Sharon. John retired in 1976 as Ohio's district sales manager for Schenley Distilleries.
His wife of more than 60 years, the former Angela E. Todut, passed away on November 11, 2003.
Surviving are: a daughter, Jonelle A. Lees, Pompano Beach, Fla.; two grandsons, Shon T. Lees and his wife Heidi, Parkland, Fla.; and Darin A.B. Lees and his wife Amy, Plantation, Fla.; six great grandchildren, Hunter, Carson, Holden, Peyton, Kendall and Ashton. He also leaves a brother, Michael Krivosh, Sharon; many nieces and nephews including a niece, Paula Manilla and her husband Jack, Jacksonville, Fla.; and a nephew, John Jurko and his wife Geri, Yankee Lake.
Besides his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by 4 brothers, infant Michael, Andy, who died as a child, Paul and Cyril Krivosh; 3 sisters, Mildred Kebrdle, Sophie Guarnieri, and Mary Ondreyka.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St.'s Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 699 Stambaugh Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 in St.'s Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Jeffrey Harter, pastor, officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage, with military honor's rendered by the Sharon Honor Guard.
