John M. Johnson Sr., 64, of 815 Carson St. went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 13, 2009, at home.
John was born Aug. 24, 1944, in New Castle, a son of the late Ned and Frances Boyd Johnson.
He married the former Cynthia McCarter on June 6, 1970. She survives at home.
John was employed by Universal Rundle as a caster for 19 years and later with Eljers Plumbing Ware for 21 years. He retired in 2005.
John was a 1963 graduate of New Castle High, where he had been a standout in track and field. He was a past member of B.P.O.E., Lodge No. 18.
Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter, Norene Johnson of Buffalo, N.Y.; one son, John M. Jr. of New Castle; four brothers, Melvin Burdell (Theodosia) Terry, Frank (Rachael) Johnson, Marvin (Phyllis) Johnson and Harold "Tubby" (Vista) Johnson, all of New Castle; three sisters, Grace Basham and Charlotte (Samuel) Razo, all of New Castle, and Frances (Evans) Hunter of New Wilmington; two special nieces, Stephanie Johnson Bell of New Castle and Frances E. Hunter of Louisville, Ky.; a special aunt, Lillian Webb of New Castle; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sara Rucker.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Norman H. Hunt, pastor of Second Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery.

Louis Alvin Johnson Jr. of 139 N. Water Ave. Sharon, passed away at 1:06 p.m., Monday December 19, 2011 in Sharon Regional Health System. He was 50.
Mr. Johnson was born on April 26, 1961 in Greenville, the son of Louis and Marilyn Thompson Johnson.
He attended schools in Greenville and was of Protestant faith. Louis enjoyed fishing, spending time in the outdoors, and playing pool. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Most importantly he loved spending time with friends and family.
Louis is survived by; his parents, Louis A. and his wife Sarah Johnson of Masury, OH, and Marilyn and her husband David A. Smeltzer of Hadley, PA; a son, Jared and his wife Samantha Ayers of Sharon, PA; 3 sisters, Tammy and her husband Richard Dwight of Sharon, Joanna and her husband Terry Louk of Youngstown, and Kenna Louk of Struthers; 3 brothers, William Johnson of Masury, OH, Tom and his wife Amy Johnson of W. Middlesex, Russell and his wife Nancy Johnson of Masury, OH, and Richard Murray of Wylie, TX. He is also survived by a companion, Wendy Johnson of Sharon and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Grandparents; a brother-in-law, Terry Louk and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2011 in the Salvation Army.
