John B. Hornyak, 1825 Hall Ave. Sharpsville, PA passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in his home after a brief illness. He was 75.
Mr. Hornyak was born on May 12, 1935 in Farrell to Paul and Blanche Kostka Hornyak.
John was a graduate of Farrell High School, class of 1954. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1974 as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service. After retiring from the Air Force he worked for the former National Castings Division for 8 years and retired from the state liquor store after 13 years of service.
He was an avid bowler and bowled in many leagues throughout his life and was a member of the 700 Club. He spent his spare time crappie fishing on Shenango Lake and watching his beloved Steelers.
Mr. Hornyak is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Lou (Evanchan) Hornyak, at home; one son George Hornyak and his wife Debbie, Virginia Beach, VA, three daughters, Sherry Salamone and her husband, Joe, Highland Lakes, NJ; Cheryl Mild and her husband, Linn, Pulaski, PA and Beth Stearns and her husband, Scott, Economy, PA; a brother, Thomas Hornyak of Georgia; a sister, Betty Baco of Youngstown, OH; Nine Grandchildren, Amanda and Christina Hornyak, Brandon, Gabi, and Angie Salamone; Dylan and Allison Mild; and Alexis and Andrew Stearns; and one great-grand daughter, Kylie Cahoon.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2011 in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon, PA 16146.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2011 in the Church of Notre Dame with Rev. Jeffery J. Noble. Military Honors will be provided at the funeral home prior to leaving for church from the Veterans of Foreign Wars West Middlesex Post 6233, Farrell Post 5286, and the Wheatland American Legion Post 432.
Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery
