John Thomas Haney, 93, of New Castle passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, September 13, 2018, in Quality of Life Services.
Mr. Haney was born March 3, 1925, in New Castle, a son of the late Thomas and Mary (McCormick) Haney.
He retired in 1985 from Aetna Standard, Ellwood City, where he worked as a carpenter for many years.
A lifelong farmer, John loved spending time on the homestead working his land and tending to his animals. Along with his wife, Florence, he ran a sweet corn stand on 422 for more than 30 years.
John was a longtime member of St. Mary Church – Mary Mother of Hope Parish, New Castle.
His beloved wife of 66 years, the former Florence M. Sochia, whom he married October 5, 1946, preceded him in death September 26, 2013.
Surviving are: two daughters, Mary Ann (Gerald) Hollerman and Judith Marie (Don) Wills; and two sons, Larry J. (Dorothy) Haney and James T. (Terri) Haney, all of New Castle; two sisters, Anna Mae Vojnovich, of Midland, PA, and Joan (Sonny) Stalma, of New Castle; a brother, Anthony (Shirley) Haney, of New Castle; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and his beloved cat "Smokey."
In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Louse Kuhlman and Rose Marie Sharisky; and five brothers, James, Bernard, Richard, Leonard and Francis Haney.
Calling hours will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday (9-16-18) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
Mass of Christian Burial will be noon Monday (9-17-18) in St. Mary Church, 124 N. Beaver St., New Castle, with Rev. Zach Galiyas, parochial vicar, as celebrant.
Entombment: Castleview Memorial Gardens, New Castle.
