John Groff of Sharon passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016, in Overlook Health and Rehab, New Wilmington, PA. He was 73.
John was born November 6, 1942, in Sharon, a son of John Groff and Josephine (Funelli) Groff.
He was a longtime resident of Sharon, formerly of Farrell, and a former member of the VFW, Post # 5286, Farrell; and the American Legion, Post # 299, Sharon. John joined the Navy at age seventeen and served on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Hornet.
After returning home, he was employed at the former General American Transportation Corp. (GATX), Masury, as a fitter. In his early years, John spent his summers boating, fishing and water skiing at Conneaut Lake while working as a bartender at the Stable Pit & Pub.
Always known by his family as "Butch," he is survived by a sister, Janice Hutz (Jim), Hubbard, OH; a brother, Edward Groff, Masury, OH; several nieces and nephews; and a son, Guy Groff.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Overlook Health and Rehab for their care and concern.
