Obituary

Calling hours and services will be held Friday (3-16-12) for John F. Egelsky II who passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep at 11:30 p.m. Saturday (3-10-12) in his residences. He was 72.

He was born August 26, 1939 in Wheatland, Pennsylvania the son of John F. Egelsky, Sr., and Roberta June Lloyd Egelsky Himes. He was a member of Sharon High Schools graduating class of 1959. He also attended Youngstown State University. He was a former resident of Yankee Lake Village, Ohio for 35 years where he served as a councilman for the village.

John began his working career at Federal Machine and Welding Company, Warren, Ohio. He then worked for the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, Ferrona Yard, Sharon, Pa., and for the Therm-Coz Home Improvement Company, Youngstown, Ohio. He was a foreman for the former General American Transportation Corporation (GATX) Masury, Ohio for 21 years and retired from plant #3 at the plants closing.

After his retirement from GATX, he worked as a supervisor for the former Packard Electric Division of the General Motors, Plant #44. He was presently employed as a part time maintenance worker at Villager Mobil Home Park, Warren, Ohio, where he worked for the past 15 years.

John was of the Catholic faith and a former member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon. He loved woodworking and made many children's toys. Ha also loved to work outside with flowers and always had a vegetable garden. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the GATX bowling league where he served as secretary for the league. He enjoyed playing cards, rooting for his Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers, and the Ohio State Buckeye's. John also loved to cook and bake. He was a former member of the Hubbard Kiwanis and was named Kiwanian Man of the Year in 1984. He was a volunteer at Kennedy Christian High School while his daughter attended school there. He was a former member of the GATX Credit Union Board of Directors as served on the credit committee. He also was a member of the Mahoning Valley Industrial Management Association.

His wife the former Arlene Manilla whom he married in St. Joseph's Church on August 10, 1963, survives at home.

He also leaves his daughter, Wendy Darlington, his two grandsons, Zachary and Jakob, all of Hubbard, Ohio and his three grand-dogs Cocoa, Jimmy and Lilybear who will greatly miss morning tea with Papa.

He also leaves his two brothers, Alan Egelsky, and Paul Egelsky and his wife Paula, all of Sharpsville, a brother-in-law Jack Manilla and his wife Paula, Jacksonville, Fl, and a sister-in-law Sally Manilla of Hubbard, Ohio and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother, a brother-in-law, Robert 'Bob' Manilla and his mother and father in-law, Vito and Helen Manilla.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (3-16-12) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.

Services: A Memorial service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday (3-16-12) in the funeral home chapel with Fr. John S. Lynch, retired priest officiating.
