John E. 'Bubsy' Porterfield, 432 Thornton St., Sharon, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at 5:30 a.m. Friday (2-11-11) in his home. He was 54.

Mr. Porterfield was born October 16, 1956 in Sharon a son of John L. and Mary Louise Taylor Porterfield.

He was a lifelong area resident and attended Sharon schools.

Bubsy was employed as a laborer and, more recently, an electrician at Champion Carrier Corp., Hermitage, for the past 14 years. He previously worked at the former F.H. Buhl Club, Sharon, as a custodian for 17 years.

Bubsy was a member of the former Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie # 327, and its softball team; the Carpo-Russ Club; and the Maenerchor Club, all Sharon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, auctions, yard sales and was most happy singing karaoke.

Surviving are: two daughters, Julie L. Settle and her husband Mark, Sharpsville; and Stacy Lynn Collins, Sharon; two sons, Jason J. Porterfield and his fiancé Kim Baker, both Sharpsville; and Shawn M. Collins and his girlfriend Jennifer Dale, both Sharon; a granddaughter, Sierra Porterfield; five sisters, Grace Kennedy and her husband Bill, Sharpsville; Alice Runyan and her husband Everitt, Sharon; Dorothy Porterfield and her boyfriend Rich Kephart, S. Pymatuning Township; Viola Rankin and her husband John, Sharon; and Kathleen Goodnight and her boyfriend Clarence Spohn, both Hermitage; and three brothers, Edward Porterfield, Sharon; Ronald Porterfield, Sharpsville; and Anthony Porterfield and his wife Cheryl, Sharon.

Besides his parents, Bubsy was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Porterfield.

Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday (2-13-11) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
