Obituary

John Allan Cifer, 70, of Farrell passed away Monday, November 12, 2018, in his residence.

Mr. Cifer was born March 31, 1948, in Sharon, a son of George and Helen (Pelsh) Cifer. He was a 1966 alumnus of Sharpsville High School, and later matriculated to Westminster College, New Wilmington. John graduated from Westminster with a bachelor's degree, and later a master's degree, both in education.

He was first employed as a high school history teacher in Farmington, OH, and later worked for the State of Ohio as a social worker and counselor in Geneva, OH.

John returned to the Shenango Valley and worked as a night auditor at the former Shenango Inn, Sharon.  A talented pianist, he performed regularly at the former Sharon Country Club and the Winner, both Sharon, and the Tara, Clark.

John loved composing music and listening to "the blues." He had a special admiration for trains, and was well versed in the history of freight cars and the railroad system.

He is survived by two aunts, Mary Lou and Marcella Pelsh; and four cousins, John (Betty), Bruce, Mark and Brian Pelsh.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage
