John H. Braatz, 93, of Shenango Twp passed away peacefully with his wife and family at his side on Monday afternoon, May 27, 2024, in UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Mr. Braatz was born April 13, 1931, in New Castle, a son of the late John H. Braatz and Alice (Body) Braatz Quarterson, and graduated from Shenango High School in 1949.
A veteran of the U.S. Army and Korean War, John honorably served in the 158th Infantry Division while stationed in Korea.
At the age of 89, John retired from the automotive industry as a self-employed parts control and inventory consultant, following 35 years in business. Earlier in his life he worked as a parts manager at Morrison Buick and Bill Fray Chevrolet; and later as a sales manager for ADP.
John was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, and previously a longtime member of Third United Presbyterian Church.
An avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan, John also enjoyed playing golf and taking bus trips to the casino with his wife, Marilyn.
His wife of 69 years, Marilyn (Cooley) Braatz, whom he married May 14, 1955, survives at their home in Shenango Twp.
John is also survived by a son, John "Ed" Braatz (Mary Beth), North Beaver; a son-in-law, David Cracraft (Donna), Scott Twp.; a sister, Norma Welker, Wellsville, OH; five grandchildren, David Cracraft (Kate), Alicia Janacone (James), Ryan Braatz, Jonathan Braatz, and Angelica Shaffer (Rob); and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Cracraft; his step-father, Paul Quarterson; two brothers, Paul Braatz and Richard Quaterson; and a sister, Alice Smith.
In keeping with John's wishes, a private service will be held by the family.
Interment: Oak Park Cemetery, Neshannock Twp.
