John "Jack" Bernat, 66, of Farrell passed away early Tuesday morning, January 29, 2019, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness.
Mr. Bernat was born August 17, 1952, in Sharon, a son of John C. and Patricia Grace (Mikis) Bernat. A lifelong Farrell resident, Jack was a 1970 graduate of Farrell High School and earned his associates degree from Youngstown State University.
He retired as an office worker from National Fuel, where he was employed for more than 30 years.
Jack was a devout Catholic and had an unwavering faith in God. He was an active member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex, where he served as a greeter and usher.
His family was the most important part of his life. He was extremely proud of each and every one of his children and loved video recording their special events. Jack enjoyed sports and exercising. He ran track in high school and loved playing golf with his sons. He also enjoyed music, a trait he inherited from his father. He played the trumpet in the Farrell High School Marching Band and the piano at home. Shopping on Craig's list was also one of Jack's hobbies.
He is survived by his loving wife, the former Kim M. Brown, whom he married June 22, 1991; a daughter, Chelsea Bleu Zaboroski and her husband Brad, of Cleveland, OH; three sons, Trenton Jon Bernat, of Philadelphia, and Logan Hunter Bernat and Kolby Owen Bernat, both of Farrell; his father and mother, John and Grace Bernat, also of Farrell; a brother, Rodney Bernat and his wife Kate, of Phoenix, AZ and their two sons, Johnathon and Jarod; two sisters, Cindy Bernat Davis and her husband Ronald and their sons Travis and Chase, and Patty Hernandez and her children Levi, Gia, Ian and Josiah; and his father- and mother-in-law, Ken and Dolly Brown, of New Middletown, OH.
Jack was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts and uncles.
The family suggests memorial contributions or Masses be directed to Church of the Good Shepherd, 3613 Sharon Rd., West Middlesex, PA 16159.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2019, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019, in Church of the Good Shepherd.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
