Obituary

John P. Baldinelli, formerly of Sharpsville Avenue, Sharon, passed away at 11:35 p.m Friday (1-24-14) in John XXIII Home, Hermitage, after an extended illness. He was 84. Mr. Baldinelli was born Nov. 5, 1929 in Sharpsville, a son of the late John B. and Helen I. Brannan Baldinelli. He was a 1947 graduate of Sharpsville High School where he was president of his senior class and a member of the 1946 undefeated Blue Devils football team. John served in Korea from 1948 to 1952 with the U.S. Army in its 862 Aviation Engineer Battalion and was a member of the 1949 undefeated Army football team in Europe. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and was employed as a rod mill operator in plant 10 of Packard Electric Corp., retiring in 1987 after 37 years of service. He was an active member of the Church of the Notre Dame, Hermitage, where he was a Eucharistic minister and a former longtime member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. John was a standout athlete and enjoyed sports. He was an avid runner, jogger and walker and participated in 15 marathons. He also coached Babe Ruth baseball in Sharon for 15 years and was a PIAA football and baseball official. John was a member of the North Sharon Volunteer Fire Department where he was a past treasurer; the Italian American War Veterans where he was past senior vice commander; and the Italian Home in Farrell. His loving wife, the former Della B. Baker, whom he married July 18, 1953, passed away April 14, 2013. Besides his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by a son, John Anthony "Tony" Baldinelli and three sisters, Theresa Cerhit, Viola "Valerie" McVey and Virginia Lyden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage, 16148. Surviving are two daughters, Debra Lee Cagle and her husband, Daniel, Transfer; Tinamarie Baldinelli, Sharon; two sons, Thomas Michael "Tucker" Baldinelli and his wife Carol, Raleigh, N.C. and John Patrick Baldinelli and his wife Lisa, Surprise, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Ashley and Natalie Cagle; Jennifer Holmes and her husband Adam; Anthony Baldinelli; Dominic Langone and Ryan Baldinelli. Also, three sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Lowrey and her husband Colonel Patrick Lowrey, Falls Church, Va.; Dorothy Fedele, South Pymatuning Township and Nancy Jane Ciccone and her husband Patrick, Wadsworth, Ohio; a brother, David Allen Baldinelli and his wife Darlene, Sharpsville and several nieces and nephews. Service: Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Friday (1-31-14) in the Church of Notre Dame with Msgr. Edward J. Zeitler, senior associate and several diocesan priests as concelebrants. Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage, with full military honors by the West Middlesex VFW, the Wheatland American Legion and the Farrell VFW honor guard.
