John J. "Jack" Appod, Sr. of Mercer passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2017, in the emergency room of Grove City Medical Center. He was 68.
Mr. Appod was born October 23, 1948, in Farrell, a son of John J. and Dolores "Deb" (Planchak) Appod. Following his graduation from Sharon High School in 1966, Jack attended trade school in Bloomsburg, PA, specializing in auto-body repair.
As a young man he worked as an auto-body technician at his father's car dealership, and later worked in the same capacity at Ben Bissett Chevrolet, Mercer. Jack retired in 2005 from GE Transportation, Grove City, where he worked as an oil tank maintenance technician for 16 years.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Jack was a lifelong active member of the National Rifle Association.
He loved to be outdoors fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle.
Surviving are: three sons, John (Tionie) Appod, Jr., Baltimore, MD; Alex Appod and his fiancé Tabatha Roberts, Atlantic, PA; and Evan Appod, Pawling, NY; two sisters, Janet Brinkley, Las Vegas, NV; and Laura (Ed) Donaldson, N. Canton, OH; a brother, Jeff (Patricia) Appod, McDonald, OH; and eight grandchildren, Jasmine, Kaylee, Connor, Kylie, Caelyn, Carter, Kara and Chance.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. Monday (10-2-17) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
A graveside service will be held privately.
Interment: St. Elizabeth's Cemetery, Farrell.
