Joanne B. Hilliard Sculthorpe of Sharon, formerly of Sharpsville, passed away at 9:26 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, in UPMC Jameson Hospital, New Castle. She was 81.

Mrs. Sculthorpe was born Sept. 26, 1935, in New Castle, a daughter of Harold Eugene and Edna Belle Hilliard.

She was a lifelong area resident and attended Orangeville, Ohio, schools.

A homemaker most of her life, Joanne also worked for a brief time at The Arc of Mercer County.

She was a member of Central Christian Church, Hermitage. Joanne participated in The Arc of Mercer Co. Bowling League at Thornton Hall, Sharon. She enjoyed painting sun-catchers and working on word-find puzzles.

Surviving are: her husband, Edward J. Sculthorpe, whom she married April 14, 2008; a brother, Ronald Eugene Hilliard, Fowler, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Also surviving are Joanne's beloved dogs, Fi-Fi, Marley, Ginger and Emily.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents.


Calling hours: 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday (1-16-17) in J. BRADLEY McGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Service: Funeral at noon Monday in the funeral home, with Pastor Lewis Voisey, pastor of Central Christian Church, Hermitage, officiating.

Interment: Graceland Cemetery, New Castle.
