Obituary

Joanne Mary Cave, Mechanicsburg, Pa., formerly of Hermitage, passed away peacefully in Mechanicsburg on Sunday (5-1-16) surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 79.


Joanne was born in Sharon on August 15, 1936 to Samuel and Gertrude Stigleman Messina. A lifelong area resident, she graduated from Sharon High School in 1955 and she also studied at Saint Vincent's School of Nursing in Erie.

She married the love of her life Thomas Joseph Cave on November 29, 1956, he preceded in her in death on January 8, 2014.Together they had two beautiful daughters, who Joanne stayed home to raise.

Along with her husband, she co-owned and operated T.J. Upholstery for many years. She enjoyed both sewing and embroidery work needed to reupholster furniture and she loved working alongside her husband Tom.

Joanne was a devout catholic. Her faith in her Lord never wavered. She loved attending mass and discussing the bible which she always kept near.

She also enjoyed spending time with her friends from Notre Dame Parish in Hermitage as well as St. Joseph's Parish in Mechanicsburg.

She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, especially dishcloths which she was always making for her children and grandchildren.

Joanne was also a talented cook. She loved to share her recipes with her family and pass on her wisdom in the kitchen.

Joanne had a special talent for baking; she made a mean pie crust which was a family favorite.

She will be remembered for her sence of humor and for the stories she loved to tell and making people laugh. She was at her best when surrounded by friends and family, telling funny stories and laughing the night away. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.


She is survived by her daughter, Paula Cave Zreliak, and a son in law Daniel Daisley, all of Mechanicsburg, her brother, Raymond Messina and his wife, Mary Ann of Greenville.

She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Kelly Duck(Daisley) and husband Patrick of Camp Hill, PA, Jill Andrechek (Daisley) and husband Matthew of Camp Hill, PA, Nicole Boyle (Zreliak)  and her husband Clayton, of Sharpsville PA, Samuel Daisley and his wife April of New Cumberland, PA, and Mark Zreliak and his wife Chelsey of Harrisonburg, VA. She is alos survived by her  great grandchildren, Sasha, Owen, Samantha, Molly, Lucas, Emma, and Baby Zreliak.

She is also survived by her faithful sidekick, Gabby "Gooby", as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she was very close with.

In addition to her husband Tom, she was also  preceeeded in death by her parents, and her beautiful daughter, Susan Ann Daisley.

Calling hours: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday ( 5-5-16 ) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday ( 5-6-16 ) at 11 a.m. in the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage, with the Rev. Jeffery J. Noble, pastor as the celebrant.

Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
