Joanne Cannon

Joanne Cannon, 84, of New Castle, passed away early Friday morning, August 21, 2026, in Quality of Life, New Castle.

Mrs. Cannon was born December 14, 1941, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Vesta Thompson Matthews. A lifelong resident, she graduated from New Castle High School in 1959.

For many years, Joanne worked at the former Shenango Pottery, retiring at the time of the plant's closing. She then worked at the former Rockwell Int’l Axel Division, again retiring at the plant's closure.

Joanne was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church of New Castle.

She enjoyed spending time around the house watching television and always looked forward to taking a trip to the track to watch the horse races.

Joanne is survived by her son, Roland Thompson, of New Castle; and two grandsons, Roland Thompson, Jr. and Kavon Huddleston.

In addition to her mother, Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Cannon; and two brothers, Charles Thompson and Leonard Thompson.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday (8-29-26) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.

A Homegoing Celebration will immediately follow at noon on Saturday, in the funeral home.
