IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan P.
Slack
May 29, 1940 – September 7, 2024
Joan P. Slack, 84, of Hermitage, PA passed away Saturday evening, September 7, 2024, surrounded by family in Cleveland Clinic-Hillcrest Hospital.
Joan was born on May 29, 1940, in Sharon, PA, to Emerson E. and Louise (Pauley) Perrine. She was a 1958 honors graduate of Hickory High School where she was on the cheerleading squad. Joan attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) where she earned a teaching degree in 1962. She spent her college summers water skiing and working at Conneaut Lake Park. She cherished and maintained lifelong friendships made through high school, college and work.
After college Joan moved to Levittown, PA where she worked as an elementary school teacher and met her husband, Lamont L. Slack, a dairy farmer from Newtown, PA. Joan and Lamont married on May 2,1964.
Joan and Lamont had two sons, Kevin and Keith, while living and working on the family farm. In 1972, Joan and her family returned to Hermitage where they had two more sons, Kirk and Lamont. She worked as a tour guide for Anderson Coach and Travel in Greenville, PA until 2000.
Joan enjoyed attending cultural speaker series, Broadway shows and reading. She even proofread books written by friends. She was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage, PA.
Joan loved to be outdoors walking, driving with the top down and spending time with family and friends at the beach or pool side soaking up the sun. She enjoyed taking pictures, baking banana bread and chocolate chip cookies, favorites of her sons and grandson.
Most of all Joan had a love for life and brought joy and happiness to her family and friends. We couldnot have asked for a better mom and grandmother. She is remembered as a light in the world to all that knew her.
In addition to her parents, Joan is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Lamont L. Slack, Jr. and her brother, Jack Perrine.
She is survived by four sons, Kevin L. Slack and his wife Lee Anne, Gibsonia, PA, Keith E. Slack, Crownsville, MD, Kirk J. Slack, Portland, OR, and Lamont L. Slack, III, of Sharon; a grandson who she adored, Jared Lamont Slack, USAF; and a sister, Rose "Jean" Sprenger, Loveland, CO.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
