Obituary

Joan E. Stasey Griffin, Sharon, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Thursday (12-8-11) in the transitional care unit of Sharon Regional Health System, after an extended illness. She was 77.

Mrs. Griffin was born July 1, 1934 in Sharon a daughter of the late John Michael and Doris Taylor Stasey.

She was a 1952 alumna of Sharon High School and, following her graduation, was employed by the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

She married Cecil L. Griffin on October 22, 1954 in the East Side Church Baptist-Disciple of Christ, Sharon, and then moved to Twinsburg, Ohio where she was employed by the Jack & Heinz Company, Maple Ht's., Ohio for two years. She and her husband then move back to Sharon where they began their family. Joan returned to the workforce in 1974 as a secretary for Holt, Allen and Garriott MDs Radiology Associates, Sharon, until her retirement in 1999. She was a lifelong member of the East Side Church Baptist- Disciple of Christ, Sharon, where she sang in the choir for many years. Joan's primary interest was music. At one time, she worked with the Community Concert Series; was a former member and past president of the Sharon Music Club; and a charter member and past president of the Shenango Valley Chorale. Above all, Joan enjoyed the time she shared with her family.

A devoted wife and mother, she is survived by her husband of 57 years, Cecil L. Griffin, at the residence; four daughters, Audrey Sue Chorle and her husband Rev. Ken Chorle, Murfreesboro, North Carolina; Laurel J. Lindey and her husband Edward F. Lindey, Mercer, PA; Robin M. Dodds and her husband Ronald Dodds, Aberdeen, South Dakota; and Brenda D. Griffin, Sharpsville; eleven grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; two sisters, Constance Palmer, West Middlesex, PA; and Sandra Fields and her husband Gary, Leesburg, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her step-father, Walter Heisterkamp.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the East Side Church Baptist-Disciple of Christ, 201 Spruce Ave., Sharon, PA 16146; the Shenango Valley Chorale, P.O. Box 509, Sharon, PA 16146; or to Cancer Research.

Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Monday (12-12-11) in East Side Church Baptist-Disciple of Christ, 201 Spruce Ave., Sharon, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Varnam, Interim Minister, and Rev. Ken Chorle, son-in-law, co-officiating. All are welcome.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage, PA.
