Obituary

Joan C. Brudowsky of Hermitage, formerly of Hatboro, PA, passed way unexpectedly at 6:03 p.m. Tuesday (1-17-17) in her residence. She was 63.

Mrs. Brudowsky was born August 28, 1953, in Abington, PA, a daughter of John M. and Isabelle Gibson Campbell.

Joan was raised in Hatboro and was a 1971 graduate of Upper Moreland High School, Willow Grove, PA. She then matriculated to Slippery Rock University where she earned two bachelor's degrees in Health and Physical Education and Special Education, respectively.

Although primarily a homemaker, Joan was very active in the Shenango Valley as both a youth gymnastics coach and an educator. As the Program Director of the YMCA she oversaw the gymnastics program and previously coached the Hickory High School gymnastic team, both Hermitage.

Joan previously worked for several local school districts, primarily Hermitage, West Middlesex and Mercer, as both a substitute teacher and in Diversified Family Services, specializing in physical and mental education development.

She was a member of Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Hermitage.

In addition to coaching she was also gymnastics judge, serving at competitions throughout the state of Pennsylvania.

Joan was a master gardener, and also enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, baking and taking photographs. Most importantly, she valued the simple aspects of life and cherished the time she shared with children and her family.

Surviving are: her husband of nearly 40 years, Charles M. Brudowsky, whom she married June 4, 1977; a daughter, Nickie C. Brudowsky, Portland, OR; a son, Joel C. Brudowsky, Denver, CO; three sisters, Helen Campbell, Davis, CA; Mary Claus and her husband James, San Diego, CA; and Belle Mahoney and her husband Dan, Glenmoore, PA.

Also surviving are two nieces, Erica Franke and Michelle Hopton; and two nephews, Mark Franke and Brian Mahoney.

Joan was preceded in death by her father, John M. Campbell; her mother, Isabelle Gibson; and her step-mother, Ruth B. Campbell.

Calling hours will be 4 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday (1-24-17) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St, Sharon.

Burial Office will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Canon Dennis Blauser, retired Episcopal priest, officiating.

Interment: the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Matlacha, Florida.
