Joan M. Banas, 91, of Hermitage, passed away Tuesday morning, July 13, 2021, in St. Paul's Home, Greenville.

Mrs. Banas was born July 15, 1929, in Espyville, PA, a daughter of Joseph Phillip and Anna (Bright) Fries. She was a 1947 graduate of Pymatuning Joint High School, Jamestown, PA.

Primarily a homemaker, Joan was employed by the former Sharon Transformer Div. of Westinghouse Electric Corp. prior to her marriage. Later in life, she worked part-time as a receptionist for Dr. Patrick Clune.

Her husband of 54 years, Joseph Banas, whom she married September 23, 1950, preceded her in death February 28, 2015.

Joan was a member of St. John Episcopal Church, Sharon, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She enjoyed crafting and working outdoors in her garden. Joan loved spending time with her family, especially while boating on Shenango Lake, Sharpsville.

Joan is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Rick) Ulmer, Lancaster, PA; two sons, Joe (Debbie) Banas, and Bill (Jodi) Banas, all of Hermitage; five grandchildren, Joe (Kristin) Banas, Leanne Ulmer, Janine (Keith) Yager, Andy Banas and Aaron Banas; three great-grandchildren, Brooks and Blakely Yager, and Donovan Banas.

In addition to her husband and parents, Joan was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Burns and Martha Coulter; and a brother, Edward Fries.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to caregivers Elaine, Diane, and Mary for their compassion and friendship.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (7-16-21) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Burial Office will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Episcopal Church, 226 W. State St., Sharon, with Rector Adam Trambley, officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
