Jo Ann B. Winter, 91, of Neshannock Twp. passed away peacefully Sunday evening, December 16, 2018, in Jameson Care Center.

Mrs. Winter was born August 9, 1927, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Emma E. (Simpson) Brown. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1945 alumnus of New Castle High School.

Primarily a homemaker, Jo Ann also worked in the office of the former Winter's clothing store in downtown New Castle, which her husband and his brothers owned and operated for many years.

Jo Ann was a lifelong active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, New Castle, where she belonged to the St. Ann's Altar Guild, serving as its president for 20 years.

She was a member of the Jameson Junior Guild and Friends of Jameson Hospice, and served on the board of directors at the American Cancer Society, all of New Castle. For her service to the community and dedication to volunteering, Jo Ann was nominated to the New Castle First Ladies in 1987.

Her husband, George F. Winter, Jr., whom she married August 31, 1946, passed away January 23, 1985.

She is survived by a son, G. Jeffrey Winter and his wife, Patricia, of Hertford, N.C.; two grandsons, Thomas J. Winter and his wife, Seema Lakdawala, PhD, and their two children, Maya and Asha, all of Pittsburgh, PA, and Stephen Bradley Winter MD and his wife, Carla, and their three children, Addison, Hudson and Mason, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jo Ann was preceded in death by her infant son, Timothy N. Winter.

Burial Office and Requiem Eucharist will be 2 p.m. Saturday (12-29-18) in Trinity Episcopal Church, 212 N Mill St, New Castle, PA 16101, with Rev. Dennis Blauser, former rector, as celebrant.
