Rev. Jimmie L. Sellers, 79, of Westerville, OH, formerly of Warren, OH, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, March 22, 2025, in Country View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Sunbury, OH.
Jimmie was born August 24, 1945, in Cheraw, SC, a son of George A. Gillespie and Eula Mae Sellers McDonald. After attending Farrell High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Jimmie served his country for 30 years, serving abroad and stateside. He culminated his career by working as a recruiting career counselor, retiring in 1993.
Following his retirement, Jimmie continued his dedicated work ethic, spending 18 years employed with Therm-O-Link, Inc. in Garrettsville, Ohio. He answered the Lord's call to ministry and studied seminary at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Jimmie became a Deacon under Rev. Lowell T. Williams and then an ordained minister under Rev. Sydney B. Walker, both of First Baptist Church in Farrell, PA. He later became a devoted member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Masury, OH, under Rev. Raymond O. Brown.
Jimmie loved cooking, spending time with his family, and reading the Bible.
His beloved wife of 58 years, Roberta (Hughes) Sellers, whom he married August 20, 1966, survives at home.
Jimmie is also survived by two daughters, Kimberly Sellers and Erika Thomas (Brian), all of Westerville, OH; four grandchildren, Braylen, Cameron, Kylen, and Lanaiah Thomas; eight siblings Elaine Hannah, Mariam Covington (Robert), of Cheraw, SC, Willie Smith (Phyllis), of Farrell, PA, Raymond Gillespie (Fannie), of Anchorage, AK, James Gillespie (Gloria), of York, SC, and Dallas Gillespie and Ervin S. Smith, both of Cheraw, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by five sisters; Ann, Shirley Gainey, Lois Shuler, Joann Smith, and Maxine White; and seven brothers George, Johnny and Preston Gillespie; Henry Jr. and Lester McDonald, and Frank and Woodrow Smith.
Calling hour will be 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 8148 Ulp St., Masury, OH.
A Home Going Celebration will immediately follow at noon, in the church, with Rev. Raymond O. Brown and Lowell T. Williams, presiding.
Interment: Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage, PA. Military honors will be rendered by the Wheatland AL and West Middlesex VFW Honor Guard.
