Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday morning (5-14-10) for Jennie Bonadio, formerly of Farrell. She went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning (5-10-11) from John XXIII Home, Hermitage. She was 97.
Ms. Bonadio was born November 22, 1913 in Wellsville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Antonio and Catherine Gallo Bonadio.
She was a 1931 alumna of Farrell High School and after graduation went to work at Carnegie Steel.
In December 1941 she answered the call to serve her country and accepted a job as a clerk typist for the US Army at the Pentagon. After 31 years of service as a civilian employee with the US Army she retired from the US Army Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, IN. Her career with the Army included work in Charlotte, NC and St. Louis, MO and she retired as a Management Analyst supporting the Office of the Comptroller. Highlights of her long federal career include recommendations to improve operations of the Finance Center, events planning and negotiations with federal unions.
Throughout her life Jennie was the consummate servant leader from her young adult life when she joined the Sodality in the 1930s and participated in the first girls retreat in Sharon in 1939 to her professional career when she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority whose motto is Life, Learning and Friendship. Jennie aligned this motto to her faith and lived life to the fullest. During her second career as a Real Estate Agent in Indianapolis she continued her membership with Soroptimists International and joined the American Business Women's Association (ABWA).When Jennie returned to the Shenango Valley in the late 1970s she spent the next 30 years of her life as an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church where she served as Secretary of the Church Council and member of a wide variety of church committees. Her 30 years of service to the valley included serving as a Core Team member for the Shenango Valley Initiative and the Christian Associates of the Shenango Valley. Sh!
e served as member, officer and Past President of the following organizations: Mercer County Women's Retreat League, John XXIII Auxiliary, Mercer County Federation of Women's Clubs and the Sharon Women's Club. Then when she was not volunteering you could find Jennie relaxing with bowling, golfing or playing bridge. She also enjoyed traveling and visited many places in the United States and abroad.
Surviving is her sister Angeline Ujakovich. The nieces and nephews that she inspired and nurtured throughout her life include: Frank and Alice Bonadio, Peter and Mary Bonadio, Catherine and Dean Schehr, Concetta and David Thomas, Maxine Oleyar, Carol and Tony Russo, Bonita and John Staszak, Robert and Gretchen Bonadio, Roberta and Frederick Boyd and Kathleen and John Townes, as well as numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Fatima- St. Ann's Church 601 Roemer Blvd, Farrell Pa 16121.

Service: Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (5-14-11) in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann's Church, Farrell, with the Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Anthony Cemetery, Hermitage.
