Jean L. Snyder, 90, a lifelong resident of Union Twp. passed away at 7:38 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 in Lawrence County Geri-Care.

Mrs. Synder was born April 8, 1926, in New Castle, a daughter of Ralph Harold and Flora Agatha Brest Urey. She was raised in Willow Grove and graduated from Mr. Jackson High School in 1944.

Mrs. Snyder was employed in a clerical capacity for many year at various retail stores throughout the area. Above all else, she was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

Upon her retirement she spent much of her time outdoors gardening, walking and riding her bicycle. Additionally, she enjoyed crafting ceramics.

Surviving are: her husband of nearly 70 years, Clayton D. Snyder, whom she married on September 28, 1946; two sons, Kenneth L. Snyder and his wife, Cathy, and Gary D. Snyder and his wife, Terry, all New Castle; a sister, Ruth Tindall, Mt. Jackson; five grandchildren, Tricia, Valerie, Melanie, Gary A. and Leah; and 14 great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Ralph Urey.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society, 628 Pearson Mill Rd, New Castle, PA 16101.

Calling hours will be 4:00 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday, September 6, 2016 , in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.

Funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 6:00 p.m. , in the funeral home, with Rev. Richard C. Nero, officiating.

Interment to follow in Castle View Memorial Gardens, New Castle.
