Obituary

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday for Jean Keasey Herman, Hospitality Care Center and formerly of Paul St., both Hermitage, who passed away peacefully at 3:28 p.m. Friday (3-20-09) in the Care Center. She was 88.
Mrs. Herman was born on December 18, 1920 in Cabot, Pa., the daughter of Fred and Della Humes Keasey.
She graduated from W. Winfield High School, Cabot, Pa., and later from Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing in 1942.
A nurse, she retired in 1983 as the in service director with 22 years of service at what was then the Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital, Farrell. She also was employed at one time for what was known as Sharon General Hospital.
Mrs. Herman was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage.
Some of her memberships included the AARP, Sharon Chapter where she had been a charter member; the American Cancer Society of Mercer County and served on their board of directors; and the UPMC Horizon Hospital Auxiliary. A cancer survivor herself, she enjoyed volunteering for the local Cancer Society and donated much of her time the Reach to Recovery program to assists cancer patients. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a certified disaster nurse. She was an avid bowler and bowled with the Horizon Mixed League.
Her husband Albert W. Herman whom she married on January 6, 1944, passed away on December 29, 1963.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra J. Polk and her husband Gary, Millcreek, WA; three sons, Ronald A. Herman and his wife Daryle, Howland, OH; Richard A. Herman and his wife Anne, and Randall L. Herman, all Hermitage; a sister Janet Antozyk and her husband Peter, Saxonburg, Pa.; two brothers, John Keasey and his wife Jane, Butler, Pa; and Fred Keasey, Peoria, AZ.; three granddaughters Nicole Mathis, Cortney and Laura Herman, two grandsons, Ron and Rick Herman, one step grandson, Chris Polk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Marilyn Sloane.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 1965 Shenango Valley Freeway, Suite 1, Hermitage, PA 16148, or to Hickory United Methodist Church, 240 North Hermitage Road, Hermitage, Pa. 16148.
Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday (3-23-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.
Services: Funeral Service Tuesday (3-24-09) at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. David A. Holste, Pastor of the Hickory United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial: Saxonburg Cemetery, Saxonburg, Pa. (Butler Co.)
