Janie Elizabeth Uretta

Janie Elizabeth Uretta, 100, of Sharon, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage.

Mrs. Uretta was born on August 20, 1925, in Birmingham, AL, a daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Spalino) Smeraglia. As a child her family relocated to the Shenango Valley and she was a 1943 graduate of Sharon High School.

Janie was employed by the former GATX and was a beautician. Later, she worked as a secretary at the Mercer County Court House, in the Clerk of Courts office.

Janie was a member of the former Sacred Heart Church, Sharon.

She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid bowler, bowling until she was 92 years old. Janie was also heavily involved in local politics and was active in the Sharon Wrestling Boosters, while her son was in school.

She is survived by a daughter, Gail Cadman, of Sharon; a son, Ronald Uretta and his wife Deborah, of Harrison, NY; three grandchildren, Samantha, Ronald Maxwell and Carlye; and a brother, Louis Smeraglia, of Sharon.

In addition to her parents, Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Uretta, on May 19, 1982; and four siblings, Frank and Bonnie Smeraglia, Nellie Davidson and Josephine Hennon.

A celebration of Janie's life will be held at a later date.
