Janice Mae Sander of 323 Rt. 208 New Bedford, PA. passed away at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2010 in her daughter's residence with her family by her side. She was 85.
Mrs. Sander was born in Harmony, PA on July 25, 1925, a daughter of the late Homer and Sarah Kaufman Measel.
She was a graduate of New Castle High School.
Through out high school, Janice was employed at May's Donuts. Following high school, Janice and her husband opened Jan's Donut Shop, which she owned and operated for over 15 years. Later in life she managed for over 10 years, The Town and Country Tavern in Hubbard, Ohio and was a bartender at the Eintracht Club.
Janice was baptized in The Lord at Victory Christian Center, where she was a member. She also loved cooking and baking, crocheting, and taking care of her indoor and outdoor plants.
Her husband, Paul G. Sander, whom she married in 1944, passed away in 1959.
Survivors include: a daughter, Bonnie and her husband Samuel Churilla of Struthers, OH; a son, Terry and his wife Barb Sander of Pulaski, PA; 6 grandchildren, Terri Lynn, Tammy, Michelle, David, Sherri, and Sam; 11 great grandchildren, Amanda, Corri, William, Adam, Carolline, Brayden, Jackson, Nicolena, Elliana, Nicco, and Gino; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Measel She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, and husband, Janice was preceded in death by, a son, Larry Sander; a daughter, Connie Del Signor; a brother, Gale Measel Sr.; a sister, Sally and her husband George Palmer; a great granddaughter, Gianna Horvat.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 111 W. Falls St. New Castle, PA 16101. There will also be calling one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Fred Baer pastor of Victory Christian Center.
Internment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
