Janet (Maiure) Zupo, of Hopewell, PA, formerly of Farrell, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, at her residence in Aliquippa, PA, surrounded by her loving family. She was 100 years old.
She was born on March 10, 1926, in Mount Pleasant, PA, to the late Joseph and Virginia (Gelorme) Maiure. Janet lived and attended schools in New Kensington, PA, and later worked at “Candyland” in Mount Pleasant, PA. She married Guy Zupo, Sr., from Farrell, PA, at Mount Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in New Kensington, PA, and later resided in Farrell, PA, for nearly 70 years.
Janet was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and worked at JCPenney for 18 years, retiring in 1992. She was a loving, devoted wife and mother who dedicated her life to family and friends, being notably gifted in sewing, baking, playing cards, and an avid puzzle enthusiast.
Janet was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Guy Zupo, Sr.; a daughter, Virginia Zupo Spon; a son, John Zupo; a sister, Marie Juliano; and two brothers, Joseph and Ronald Maiure.
Janet is survived by her four children, Ralph Zupo, of Salineville, OH, Jacqueline (Michael) McFarland, of Auburn, GA, Guy F. Zupo, Jr. (Toni Tharp) of Aliquippa, PA, Lisa (Mark) Comer of Elkton, VA; a son-in-law, George Spon, of New Castle, PA; a daughter-in-law, Nancy McDaniel Zupo, of New Market, VA; a brother Al (Connie) Maiure, of Mars, PA; a sister-in-law, Joyce Maiure; seven grandchildren, Greg (Alyson) Spon, Gina Spon Girt, Elizabeth (Wayne) Bennett, Jessica (Kirk) White, Matthew (Dr. Christa L.) McKirland, Jennifer Comer (Brandon), Monica (Mike) Simmons; and twelve great-grandchildren, Mordecai and Silas Girt; Roman and Luca Spon; Andrew, Elise, and Jane Bennett; Henry White; Raya and Johnny McKirland; Camden Shifflett; and Rachele Simmons. Janet was also blessed by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be directed to Bethany Hospice and Palliative Care, 400 Holiday Dr #101, Pittsburgh, PA 15220.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday (9-11-26) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McGonigleFuneralHomeandCrematory.com.
A Celebration of Janet’s Life will immediately follow at 1 p.m., in the funeral home, with Dr. Christa L. McKirland, officiating.
Interment: St. Anthony Cemetery, Hermitage.
