Janet Tanner

Janet S. Tanner, 79, of New Castle, passed away early Friday morning January 9, 2026, in Kadima Rehabilitation and Nursing at New Wilmington.

Mrs. Tanner was born January 23, 1946, in New Castle, a daughter of Andrew and Susan (Vanta) Braho. A lifelong area resident, she graduated from Wilmington Area High School in 1964.

For 45 years, Janet worked as a claim adjuster for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in New Castle.

An avid golfer and bowler, Janet participated in many leagues throughout her life, most notably the Polish Falcons Bowling League and Women’s Monday Night League at Castle Hills.

Above all else, Janet was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandma to her two grandchildren, Sydney and Aspen.

Her husband of 55 years, Stanley P. Tanner, whom she married February 20, 1965, preceded her in death on December 10, 2020.

Janet is survived by two sons, Patrick and Billy Tanner; and two grandchildren, Sydney and Aspen Tanner, all of New Castle; three sisters, Louise Augustine (Mike), Peggy White, and Alice Battison (Ed); and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Robert Braho.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public visitation, and a funeral service will be held privately by family and close friends.
