James R. “Jake” Steiner, 59, of Hermitage, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Wednesday evening, May 27, 2026, in the emergency room of UPMC Shenango Valley, Farrell.
Jake was born August 28, 1966, in Sharon, a son of the late William J. Steiner, Sr. and Doris Ann (Griffin) Steiner, and graduated from Sharon High School in 1984.
For the last 26 years, Jake has worked as a crane operator at NLMK and was a member of USW 1016, both Farrell.
Jake was a lifelong member of Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, Hermitage, where he served on the church board and the security team.
An avid hunter, he especially enjoyed fall archery, where he found peace in admiring nature and all of God’s creation. Jake also looked forward to camping and treasured time spent around the fire.
Above all else, Jake was a family man. He dedicated his life to Christ and caring for his wife, children, and grandchildren, whom he truly adored.
His beloved wife of 37 years, Cathy (Zieminick) Steiner, whom he married on April 15, 1989, survives at home.
Jake is also survived by three daughters, Samantha Steiner and her partner, Justin Devine, Masury, OH, Chelsea Steiner, Sharon, and Andrea McCarthy (Cuyler), Sharpsville; five grandchildren, Sy, CJ, James, Liam, and Camryn; a sister, Judy Bonanno (Frank), of Hermitage; two brothers, William Steiner, Jr. (Audrey), of Hermitage, and David Steiner (Diane), of Edinboro, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Steiner.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, 3480 Shenango Valley Fwy., Hermitage, PA 16148.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday (6-1-26) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon; and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday (6-2-26) in Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, Hermitage. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the church, with Pastor Brian Burke, officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
