James E. McConnell, 82, of Hermitage, passed away with his family by his side Saturday evening, December 10, 2022, in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell.

Mr. McConnell was born May 24,1940, in Volant, a son of the late Cyrus H. McConnell and Mary B. (Holzapfel) McConnell, and later attended Grove City High School.

James was employed by Midland Ross Corp., Sharon, formerly National Castings, as a controller/switchman, retiring in 1983.

James took great pride in his lawn and could often be seen in his yard mowing or planting flowers. He enjoyed spending time outdoors with his grandchildren and supporting their love for sports, especially by participating in the games they had in his yard. A family man, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

James is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth E. (Covert) McConnell, Hermitage; a daughter, Janet Loosemore, Masury; a son, Timothy McConnell, Hermitage; a sister, Jean Rodgers, Grove City; two brothers, Cyrus McConnell (Margaret), North Port, FL, and Robert "Jake" McConnell, Grove City; five grandchildren, Sara Beth Custer (Saul), Meagan Perry, Joshua McConnell, Steven Loosemore and Emily McConnell; and step-granddaughter, Makayla Allen; six great-grandchildren, Ayden McConnell, Eithan McConnell, Benjamin Peterson, Hazen Custer, Louis Loosemore and Bonnie Perry; and two step-great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Ava Kilgore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James William McConnell; four sisters, Vivian Dale, Marian Rodgers, Jane Hinds and Margie Filer; and two brothers, Sylvester "Bud" McConnell and Glenn McConnell.

Calling hours will be 4 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday (12/27/22) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, in the funeral home, with Pastor Hope Dalessandro, officiating.
