James L. Roberts, 82, of Sharpsville passed away Friday, January 11, 2019, in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell, surrounded by family.
Mr. Roberts was born November 23, 1936, in Sharpsville, a son of the late Ernest and Mollie (Dameron) Roberts. He graduated from Sharpsville High School and attended Youngstown State University. Upon the completion of his service in the U. S. Army, he began a forty year employment with Conrail Railroad.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was passionate about the game of golf and traveled the United States playing various golf courses. He expressed many times that the greatest joy of his life was his grandchildren.
His wife of 50 years, the former Aneita Dunn, whom he married May 2, 1959, in St. Joseph Church, passed away November 27, 2009.
Surviving are: three children, Brian Roberts, of Edenton, NC; Monica Buchanon, Ph.D. and her husband Tony Buchanon, of Denver, CO; and Dr. Michael Roberts and his wife Dr. Angela Roberts, of Warren, OH; eight grandchildren, Sean Buchanon and his wife Kimberly, Conor Buchanon and Ashlin Buchanon, all of Denver, CO; Zachary Bruno, Alexa Bruno and Jacob Bruno, all of Hermitage; and Lauren Roberts and Ian Roberts, both of Warren, OH; and a special friend, Marge Marriotti, of Hermitage. He also leaves two brothers-in-law, Dean Barca, of Sharpsville, and Donald Dunn, of Baltimore, MD; three sisters-in-law, Helen Dunn, of Hermitage, Bonita Niemiec and her husband John, of Niles, OH, and Peg Roberts, of St. Louis, MO.
Besides his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Roberts-Bruno; six siblings, Judy Roberts, Carol Brigham, Rev. Fay Barca, Helen Wareham, Ernie "Junior" Roberts and Donna Maybra; six brothers-in-law, George Brigham, John "Jack" Wareham, Richard Maybra, Gerald Dunn, Ray Dunn and Albert Dunn; and three sisters-in-law, Helen Dunn, Arlene Dunn and Miriam Dunn.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed toward St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Per Jim's wishes, there are no calling hours or service.
