Obituary

James A. Karing, 92, of Sharon, passed away Wednesday morning, September 21, 2022, in Orchard Manor, Grove City, PA.

Mr. Karing was born March 29, 1930, in Sharon, a son of the late Adolphe and Leona (Yaszai) Karing. A 1948 graduate of Sharon High School and U.S. Army Veteran, he was proud to serve his country during the Korean War in the Army of Occupation, stationed in Germany.

Jim spent his entire career as a millworker. He was employed for more than 35 years at the former Sawhill Tubular, Sharon.

James was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, where he dedicated many years to assisting the church's food pantry.

He was also a member of the Hickory VFW, Post 6166, Hermitage; and formerly belonged to a bowling league at Thorton Hall, Sharon.

An avid Nascar fan, he looked forward to his annual trip to the Indianapolis 500. He also enjoyed woodworking, building model airplanes from balsa wood, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

His wife, the former Rita Hamel, whom he married on August 11, 1950, passed away on January 2, 2014.

He is survived by four children, Kathleen Serb, Hermitage, James Karing and his wife Julie, Suffield, OH, Daniel Karing, Sharon, and Janet McKinney and her husband Bill, Sharon; seven grandchildren, Lauren Serb, Lawrence Serb (Kristen), Christian McKinney (Christina), Breanne McKinney Stephan (Michael), Caitlin McKinney Gavin (Jeff), Sarah Karing Poor, and Tyler Karing (Lisa); and eight great-grandchildren, Ryan and Hayden Poor, Lenora McKinney, Cassandra and Nathaniel Stephan, Eloise Gavin, Blaise Common and Kaydence Karing.

In addition to his parents and wife, James was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Karing.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Joseph's Food Pantry, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Calling hour will be 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass Monday (09/26/2022) in the gathering space of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McGonigleFuneralHomeandCrematory.com

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m., Monday, in the church, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor as celebrant.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
