James M. Holl, of Hermitage, passed away at
5:45 a.m.

, in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System, after a brief illness.
He was 76.
Mr. Holl was born May 2, 1940, in Sharon, a son of Louis M. and Margaret Connair Holl.
He was a graduate of Farrell High School and served four years in the Air Force.
Jim earned his bachelor's degree in Social Science and his master's degree in Elementary Education from Edinboro (PA) State College.
He retired in 1999 as an elementary school teacher from the Farrell Area School District where he taught for more than thirty years.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania and National Education Associations.
During this time, he also owned and operated the former Holl's Plant Palace in Sharon and the Austinburg (Ohio) Skating Rink.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending time in his greenhouse and making crafts.
He also helped his daughter with her craft store, the former Gift House in the Eastwood Mall and assisted at the former Creative Gifts in the Shenango Valley Mall.
Jim was a member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell.
He loved his animals, especially Gilligan, Milo and Dixie, and spending time at his son's farm watching the chickens.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Sandra Humphrey, whom he married January 25, 1969, at the residence; a daughter, Margie Darbey and her husband Brian, Vienna, Ohio; a son, Jimmy Holl and his wife Ashley, Hermitage; three sisters, Marge Smith and her husband Ralph, Mercer; and Mary and Cathy Holl, both of Sharon; two brothers, Daniel Holl, Youngstown; and Robert Holl, Sharon; a sister-in-law, Kathy Thomas and her husband Glen, Mercer; and a brother-in-law, Robert Humphrey, Hermitage.
He was known as "Dutch" to the many nieces and nephews, who will miss him deeply.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Holl; his mother- and father-in-law, Margaret and Robert Johnson; and a brother-in-law, Mark Johnson.

Funeral Mass will be
10:30 a.m.
Friday, June 17, 2016, in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell, with Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor, as celebrant.
Military honors will be rendered by the Hickory VFW Honor Guard immediately following the Mass.
Interment: Vienna Township (Ohio) Cemetery.
