James Edward Hitch

James Edward Hitch, 56, of New Castle, previously of Wilmington, NC, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Mr. Hitch was born January 13, 1970, in New Castle, a son of Robert and Carol (Smith) Hitch. He was a 1988 graduate of New Castle High School.

A proud veteran, Jim honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Jim enjoyed playing tennis and traveling the world with his longtime companion, Heidi McMullen. Together, they traveled to 52 countries. An avid Pittsburgh sports fan, especially of the Steelers and Pirates, Jim was a member of many Pittsburgh Steelers clubs while living in the South.

In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his longtime companion and high school sweetheart, Heidi McMullen; a stepson, John McMullen; and a stepdaughter, Melinda MacDonald, and her husband, Jacob.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hitch; and his grandfather, local historian, John Hitch.

A celebration of Jim's life will be announced at a future date.
