Guthrie
August 6, 1954 – August 27, 2024
James "Jim" Guthrie, 70, of Niles, OH, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, in the Suites at Continuing Health Care of Niles.
Mr. Guthrie was born on August 6, 1954, in Sharon, a son of the late William and Betty Margaret (Burkhart) Guthrie, Sr. He was a 1972 graduate of Farrell High School.
Jim was a self-employed carpet installer for 24 years. He also drove truck, spending most of his time delivering oil and fuel.
A train enthusiast, he was highly involved in the Buhl Club-Model Train Society. Jim loved spending time tinkering and painting his collections. He was also a music fan and enjoyed listening to his brother, Bill's band, who taught him how to play the steel guitar. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, the former Debra Soles, whom he married on January 19, 1985; a daughter, Pam Guthrie; two sons, Michael Guthrie, both of Youngstown, and Matthew Guthrie, Sharon; twelve grandchildren, Brooke, Michael, Nevaeh, Sydnee, John, Lily, Dominic, William, Jackson, Gabriella and Andrew; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Piper. He is also survived by a sister, Donna Lee Donnell, Mountain Home, ID; and two brothers, Donald Guthrie, South Carolina, and Dale Guthrie, Masury, OH.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, William Guthrie, Jr.; and two brothers and a sister, who died at birth.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the National Kidney Foundation, at www.kidney.org
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
