James E. Benton, 89, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born on September 2, 1936, in Portage, PA, James lived a life full of love, dedication, and service.
James was the cherished son of the late James and Martha Benton. He shared a special bond with his sister, Ruby Patterson, who also preceded him in death. In August 1960, James married the love of his life, Dorothy Baldwin. The two shared a beautiful partnership until Dorothy's passing, leaving behind a legacy of devotion and love that has inspired their family.
James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for four years, an experience that he held dear throughout his life. Following his military service, James embarked on a long and rewarding career in the banking and finance sector, where he was respected for his integrity and professionalism.
A man of many passions, he found great joy in the outdoors, especially through hunting and fishing. These activities were not just hobbies, but cherished opportunities to bond with his eldest son, Greg, and grandson, Derik. He also had a deep appreciation for classic cars, particularly the models of the 1950s and 60s, a passion he shared with his younger son, Tim.
James is survived by his two sons, Greg and his wife Karen, and Tim. He was a proud grandfather to Stephanie and Derik, and a doting great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his later years.
His life was a testament to the values of family, perseverance, and kindness. His legacy will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
